Abstract
A city’s “mobility narrative” reflects its society and culture—the shared story of how people move, the systems they use, and the norms that shape everyday travel. By understanding this narrative, we can identify disruptions and opportunities to improve mobility. This thesis examines Mexico City’s mobility narrative through a critical analysis of its public bike-sharing system, ECOBICI, using both qualitative and quantitative methods. The study is framed by three perspectives: the New Mobilities Paradigm (movement as a social, networked phenomenon), Staging Mobilities (how mobility is staged and organized in everyday settings), and Architectures of Hurry (infrastructures and time pressures that accelerate urban life). Using ECOBICI as a case, the thesis explores what cycling practices can offer. The aim is to better understand the city’s mobility challenges and amplify solutions that can improve urban life.
