Specialet undersøger konflikten om Ungdomshuset på Jagtvej 69 med fokus på, hvordan landsdækkende danske medier konstruerer de unge aktivister, deres politiske handlinger og deres forståelser af demokrati. Med en socialkonstruktivistisk tilgang og kritisk diskursanalyse (med udgangspunkt i Norman Faircloughs model og suppleret af Anthony Giddens’ teorier) analyseres artikler fra Information, Morgenavisen Jyllands-Posten, Berlingske Tidende og Politiken. Det empiriske materiale peger på, at dækningen ofte centreres om demonstrationer og vold og anvender negative, farebetonede metaforer om aktivisterne. Analysen indlejres i en historisk kontekst med fokus på bevægelsens rødder og lokale fortællinger. En hovedkonklusion er, at mediernes italesættelser og deres mulighed for at påvirke den politiske og civile dagsorden bidrager til at opretholde en negativ repræsentation af de marginaliserede unge og dermed spiller en vigtig rolle i konfliktens udformning.
This thesis examines the conflict surrounding Ungdomshuset at Jagtvej 69, focusing on how national Danish news media construct the young activists, their political actions, and their understandings of democracy. Using a social constructivist approach and critical discourse analysis (drawing on Norman Fairclough’s model and supplemented by Anthony Giddens’ theories), the study analyzes articles from Information, Morgenavisen Jyllands-Posten, Berlingske Tidende, and Politiken. The empirical material indicates that coverage often centers on demonstrations and violence and employs negative, danger-laden metaphors about the activists. The analysis is situated in a historical context that traces activist roots and local narratives. A main conclusion is that media representations, through their influence on the political and civil agenda, help maintain a negative construction of marginalized youth and thus play an important role in shaping the conflict.
