Abstract
The purpose of this thesis is to investigate how Danish news media covered the Israel-Palestine conflict between October 7. 2023, and October 7. 2024. Using Johan Galtung’ theory of war and peace journalism as the analytical framework, the study conducts a content analysis to examine developments in media coverage, actor framing, source use and underlying journalistic tendencies. The analysis is based on a dataset of articles from national and regional media outlets and is structured around four sub-questions addressing different dimensions of the coverage. The findings indicate that Danish media reproduce patterns of war journalism, characterized by selective coverage of elite actors, a heavy use of elite sources and binary moral framing of good and bad. While some indicators – such as the portrayal of civilians and the restrained use of emotional language – suggest attempts at balance, these are insufficient to counter the overarching structure of conflict-oriented reporting.
