Abstract
The thesis takes into consideration the interplay between interactive and narrative media. This part of the project shows that interactive movies' research field is limited due to an ongoing scientific debate between narratology and ludology, which is related to "the interactive paradox" (Ryan, 2009). At the same time, some researchers have chosen not to be limited by the debate and instead suggest alternative approaches - allowing narrative and interactivity in the same media, without prioritizing one over the other. Finally, cognitive media theories are introduced, which center around psychophysical user abductions as a form of play with the media’s strategic release of information. In this way, adopting well tested narrative schemes helps proposing the beginning of a new theoretical framework for interactive movies.
