Afhandlingen undersøger, hvordan handicap forstås på forskellige måder i socialt arbejde i Grønland. Den ser på møderne mellem mennesker med funktionsnedsættelser og socialrådgivere i det offentlige velfærdssystem i tre kommuner i det vestlige Grønland. Grundlaget er feltarbejde i foråret 2023 i byerne Sisimiut, Ilulissat og Aasiaat samt i landsbyen Qeqertarsuaq på Diskoøen. Undersøgelsen anvender antropologiske metoder – en tæt, menneskenær tilgang – og et intersektionelt perspektiv, hvor forhold som køn, alder, sted og sociale vilkår tænkes sammen for at forstå, hvordan handicap opleves og håndteres i praksis.
This thesis examines the different ways disability is understood within social work in Greenland. It looks at interactions between people with impairments and social workers in the public welfare system across three municipalities in western Greenland. The study is based on fieldwork conducted in spring 2023 in the towns of Sisimiut, Ilulissat and Aasiaat, and in the village of Qeqertarsuaq on Disko Island. It uses anthropological methods—an in-depth, people-centered approach—and an intersectional perspective that considers how factors such as gender, age, place and social conditions intersect to shape how disability is experienced and addressed in practice.
