Abstract
Dette speciale undersøger, hvordan professionelle designere forstår og håndterer integrationen af generativ AI i designprocesser, og hvilken betydning teknologien har for kreativitet, faglig dømmekraft og autenticitet. Med et omfattende litteraturreview som afsæt kombinerer studiet en eksplorativ tilgang med Grounded Theory. Forfatterne gennemførte kvalitative interviews med fem designere på tværs af tre kreative bureauer for at belyse, hvordan AI bruges, opfattes og vurderes i praksis. På baggrund af empirien udvikles en substantiel teori, der positionerer designeren som en kritisk medskaber i samarbejde med AI, med fokus på at bevare menneskelige værdier, professionel autonomi og kontekstuel kvalitet. Teorien blev afprøvet i et tre-dages workshopforløb, hvor forfatterne deltog i en Design Thinking-proces med AI-værktøjer. Workshoppen fungerede som et refleksivt rum, hvor samspillet mellem teori og praksis blev undersøgt, og resulterede i en konceptuel model for at integrere AI i hver fase af design thinking, inklusive anbefalede anvendelser, refleksionspunkter og AI’s skiftende roller. Specialets bidrag er teoretiske, metodiske og empiriske og henvender sig til både forskere og praktikere på designområdet.
This thesis explores how professional designers understand and manage the integration of generative AI in design processes, and how the technology affects creativity, professional judgment, and authenticity. Grounded in an extensive literature review, the study combines an exploratory approach with Grounded Theory. The authors conducted qualitative interviews with five designers across three creative agencies to examine how AI is used, perceived, and evaluated in practice. Based on these insights, they developed a substantive theory that positions the designer as a critical co-creator working with AI to safeguard human values, professional autonomy, and contextual quality. The theory was tested in a three-day workshop in which the authors participated in a Design Thinking process using AI tools. This workshop served as a reflective space where theory and practice converged and led to a conceptual model for integrating AI into each stage of the design thinking process, including recommended uses, reflection points, and AI’s shifting roles. The thesis offers theoretical, methodological, and empirical contributions for both researchers and practitioners in the design field.
