Abstract

This study investigates the development of a virtual helicopter, as a simulation game and an associated education by Frank Rosengaard and the Section for Digital Learning at the Royal Danish Defense Academy in collaboration with Helicopter Wing Karup. The paper shows how you can be able to develop a didactic design with a virtual helicopter simulation, which can give the students (technicians, rescuers, flight mechanics and flying personnel) meaningful experiences / understanding (Epistemic Framework / Procedures and Operations) for use by the Danish Defense Rescue Helicopters. The study analyses a helicopter project developed as a simulation game, where the purpose is not to win, but to train the students' practice in a real-life environment. The study finishes with a discussion of what the analysis has shown. The current didactic design gives my test subjects good knowledge and learning. Not because of the epistemic framework, but because the simulation has been close to reality, meaningful and motivating, with the framework and rules that have been in the simulation game. It is concluded that there is the possibility of developing the simulation, to work more like a game, in the epistemic framework, to promote learning in the simulation, although the basic learning and quick knowledge for new technicians, rescuers, flight mechanics and flying personnel in the Danish defense was working for test subjects, in the present design.
