Abstract

Surveys are widely used because they are quick and low-cost, but many people receive so many that they lose interest, which lowers response rates. At the Department of Computer Science at Aalborg University, semester evaluation surveys are sent to collect students’ feedback on the study program, but the response rate is considered unsatisfactory. This project explores whether gamifying a survey—adding simple game-like elements to make participation more engaging—can help. Using Action-Design Research, a method that iteratively builds and tests practical solutions while generating knowledge, we designed a gamified alternative to the traditional semester survey. Over three cycles, we refined the survey based on data and student feedback. The main outcome is a set of design principles to guide future efforts to gamify surveys.

Spørgeskemaer bruges ofte, fordi de er hurtige og billige, men mange modtager så mange, at de mister interessen, og svarprocenterne falder. På Institut for Datalogi ved Aalborg Universitet udsendes semesterevalueringer for at få de studerendes feedback på uddannelsen, men svarprocenten vurderes som utilfredsstillende. Dette projekt undersøger, om en gamificeret spørgeskemaløsning—tilføjelse af enkle spilelementer for at gøre deltagelse mere motiverende—kan hjælpe. Med Action-Design Research, en metode der gennem gentagne runder udvikler og afprøver praktiske løsninger og samtidig skaber viden, designede vi et gamificeret alternativ til den traditionelle semesterevaluering. Gennem tre iterationer blev løsningen forbedret på baggrund af data og tilbagemeldinger fra studerende. Projektets vigtigste resultat er et sæt designprincipper, der kan guide fremtidige forsøg på at gamificere spørgeskemaer.
