Abstract

This master’s thesis explores how a mobile puzzle game can spark social interaction among strangers. We designed JiggyTime using ideas from a design workshop and a pragmatic application of communication theories, then iteratively improved it based on evaluations and playtests. JiggyTime was assessed as a way to encourage interpersonal interaction (direct social engagement) between people who did not know each other. The results show that the game can prompt interaction at a personal level, but chiefly when its design deliberately requires players to communicate and collaborate.
