Samfundets udvikling påvirkes i stigende grad af klimaforandringer, som vækker forskellige følelsesmæssige reaktioner og holdninger. Specialet undersøger, om sådanne reaktioner samt udvælgelse af viden om klimaforandringer påvirker den sociale sammenhængskraft, og hvordan socialt arbejde kan bidrage til inklusion og solidaritet. Undersøgelsen er kvantitativ og forankret i socialkonstruktivisme; den søger ikke objektive sandheder, men belyser, hvordan virkelighedsopfattelser konstrueres. Den teoretiske ramme omfatter blandt andet Giddens’ paradoks, klassiske og nyere forståelser af solidaritet (Durkheim, Jodi Dean, Søren Juul) samt Adam Grants perspektiv på aflæring og gentænkning, suppleret af eksisterende forskning i bekræftelsesbias, mentale barrierer for klimahandling, kognitiv dissonans, ekkokamre og algoritmisk sortering af viden. Formålet er at forstå mulige mekanismer bag polarisering i klimadebatten og diskutere, hvilke greb i socialt arbejde der kan fremme dialog, depolarisering og fælles bevidsthed. Societal development is increasingly affected by climate change, prompting diverse emotional reactions and attitudes. This thesis examines whether such responses and the selective use of climate knowledge influence social cohesion, and how social work can foster inclusion and solidarity. The study is quantitative and grounded in social constructionism; it does not seek objective truths but explores how perceptions of reality are constructed. The framework draws on Giddens’s paradox, classical and contemporary understandings of solidarity (Durkheim, Jodi Dean, Søren Juul), and Adam Grant’s perspective on unlearning and rethinking, alongside existing research on confirmation bias, mental barriers to climate action, cognitive dissonance, echo chambers, and algorithmic filtering of information. The aim is to understand mechanisms that may drive polarization in the climate debate and to discuss practices in social work that can support dialogue, depolarization, and collective consciousness.
