Abstract
Projektet undersøger, hvad det betyder for Aalborg Øst, at det nye universitetshospital placeres i bydelen. Målet er at vise, hvordan et socialt udfordret boligområde kan styrkes, og hvordan ghettodannelse kan modvirkes ved at koble området tættere til den samlede byudvikling. Først kortlægges Aalborg Østs fysiske strukturer og funktioner som veje, stier, grønne områder og hverdagsfunktioner for at finde både problemer og potentialer. Projektets teoretiske udgangspunkt er stedets identitet. Det belyses fra to vinkler: For det første ses Aalborg Øst som ét samlet sted, hvor både beboernes indefra-perspektiv og andre aalborgenseres udefra-perspektiv afdækkes og bruges i den overordnede konceptudvikling. For det andet zoomes der ind på udvalgte lokaliteter og deres unikke identiteter, som danner grundlag for konkrete designgreb. På den baggrund udarbejdes en strukturplan – en overordnet plan for forbindelser og centrale byrum – der viser, hvordan nye og forbedrede forbindelser kan skabe sammenhæng. En samlende struktur og to konkrete byrum detaljeres som eksempler på, hvordan bedre forbindelser og målrettet identitetsarbejde kan styrke beboernes tilhørsforhold og forbedre omverdenens syn på Aalborg Øst.
This project examines what it means for Aalborg East that the new university hospital will be located in the district. It explores how a socially challenged housing area can be strengthened and how ghetto formation can be avoided by actively integrating the area into wider urban development. The study first maps Aalborg East’s physical structures and uses—such as streets, paths, green spaces, and everyday functions—to identify problems and potentials. The theoretical foundation is place identity, addressed from two perspectives. First, the district is viewed as a single place with a collective identity, considering both residents’ insider views and other citizens’ outsider views; this informs the overall concept. Second, the project zooms in on selected locations and their unique identities to guide the final design. Based on this analysis and theory, a structure plan—an overarching plan for connections and key public spaces—is developed to show how improved links can create cohesion. One unifying structure and two specific public spaces are detailed as examples of how better connections and identity-building can strengthen residents’ sense of belonging and improve the wider city’s perception of Aalborg East.
