Abstract

The purpose of this project is to discover what an aspiring games entrepreneur needs to know in order to succeed. It will also look at the conditions for starting a game company in Denmark and what special challenges and opportunities the Danish industry poses. It was found that knowledge is needed particularly regarding economy and treating the company as a business instead of a project to enable a gaming vision to come true. Business plans, company structuring, securing capital, understanding the market, handling taxes, legal issues and marketing are all issues that need to be understood and handled properly. Some of them require experience that will have to be accumulated. It is important to distinguish between a project manager and a leader of a company as their responsibilities are vastly different. The Danish games industry lacks funding badly and as so the growth is poor. However, new initiatives like tax credits might change that. The industry is developing, and digital distribution is making it easier to publish small games – providing opportunities for a small game company to put its mark on the market and grow a succesfull business.
