Dette speciale er et kvalitativt casestudie af den danske rapper Ham Den Langes (Thorbjørn Bech-Rossen) kommunikation om flygtningesituationen fra 2015 og frem, hvor han blev aktiv på sociale medier, udførte frivilligt arbejde i især græske flygtningelejre, grundlagde NGO’en 100procentnødhjælp og udgav det dokumentariske album Dagbog fra en flygtningelejr. Udgangspunktet er et socialkonstruktivistisk perspektiv og et hovedspørgsmål om, hvad der kendetegner hans kommunikation om flygtninge, og hvordan den kan forstås som politisk handling. Analysen fokuserer på to sammenvævede dimensioner: 1) musikkens cirkulation af affekt og æstetisk praksis i konstruktionen af kollektiv identitet og mobilisering, og 2) den diskursive produktion af tekst og mening, hvor kosmopolitiske værdier artikuleres i antagonisme til nationalistiske diskurser. Det primære empiriske materiale er de musikalske og tekstlige elementer på Dagbog fra en flygtningelejr, suppleret af Ham Den Langes tilstedeværelse og interaktioner på Facebook. Del I behandler den ikke-musikalske kommunikation med særlig vægt på nyhedsmediers rolle i at konstruere flygtninge, indvandrere og islam som et problem og på rapperens egen online-kommunikation. Del II tilbyder en hermeneutisk læsning af albummet, undersøger æstetisk identitetskonstruktion, musikkens påvirkningsformer (persuasion/manipulation, affekt, social konformitet) samt journalistiske stiltræk. Del III diskuterer musik som politisk deltagelse gennem diskursiv, affektiv og kulturel mobilisering. Specialet bygger blandt andet på hermeneutisk albumanalyse, diskursanalytiske greb og interviews med artisten; endelige konklusioner om effekter og handlekraft præsenteres i de afsluttende kapitler, som ikke er inkluderet i dette uddrag.

This thesis is a qualitative case study of Danish rapper Ham Den Lange (Thorbjørn Bech-Rossen) and his communication about the refugee situation from 2015 onward, spanning his activity on social media, volunteer work in Greek refugee camps, the founding of the NGO 100procentnødhjælp, and the documentary-style album Dagbog fra en flygtningelejr (Diary from a Refugee Camp). Framed by a social constructivist perspective, the central research question asks what characterizes his communication about refugees and how it can be understood as political action. The analysis focuses on two intertwined dimensions: (1) the circulation of affect and aesthetic practice in music as a means of constructing collective identity and mobilizing political movements, and (2) the discursive production of text and meaning that reproduces cosmopolitan values in antagonism to nationalist discourses. The primary empirical site is the musical and textual material on Dagbog fra en flygtningelejr, supplemented by his presence and interactions on Facebook. Part I addresses non-musical communication, emphasizing how national news media construct refugees, immigrants, and Islam as problematic and how the artist communicates online. Part II offers a hermeneutic reading of the album, explores aesthetic identity construction, music’s modes of influence (persuasion/manipulation, affect, social conformity), and journalistic traits. Part III discusses music as political participation through discursive, affective, and cultural mobilization. Methods include hermeneutic album analysis, discourse analytic approaches, and interviews with the artist; specific findings and conclusions are presented in the final chapters, which are not included in this excerpt.
