Abstract
Denne afhandling skitserer et design for et læringsmiljø på det nybyggede tekniske gymnasium Zealand Business College i Vordingborg. Udgangspunktet er at afskaffe traditionelle bøger og styrke samarbejdsbaseret læring. Miljøet er et CSCL-miljø (computerunderstøttet kollaborativ læring), hvor tablet-pc’er erstatter bogreoler, penalhuse og den almindelige multimedieværktøjskasse. Valget af enhed er Apple iPad. Målet er at gøre læring mere motiverende og at give eleverne mulighed for at kommunikere og samarbejde døgnet rundt. I stedet for blot at bruge digitale udgaver af skolebøger tilstræbes et sammenhængende digitalt flow fra lærerens materialer til elevens arbejde og evaluering. Designet bygger på brede didaktiske, pædagogiske og tekniske analyser samt handlingsbaserede praksisforsøg. Et fokusgruppeinterview med elever, der har brugt iPads i undervisningen, har informeret det indledende design, og en efterfølgende designrunde har resulteret i en fuld kravliste. Analysen viser, at den almindelige undervisningsramme er utilstrækkelig. Det bogløse gymnasium er derfor indrettet til at understøtte problembaseret læring og opdagende læring, som i CSCL-rammen kombineres til “Reality Based Learning”. Tre centrale designimplikationer fremkom: Det er nødvendigt at afskaffe ikke kun papirbøger, men papir i det hele taget; interaktive whiteboards bør undgås som præsentationsværktøj i klassen; og iPads’ lukkede/skjulte filsystem gør det vanskeligt at aflevere og dele filer på tværs af forskellige læringsplatforme (Learning Management Systems).
This thesis outlines a learning environment for the newly built technical high school at Zealand Business College in Vordingborg. The starting point is to remove traditional printed books and strengthen collaborative learning. The environment is a CSCL setup (computer-supported collaborative learning) in which tablet PCs replace bookshelves, pencil cases, and the usual multimedia toolbox. The chosen device is the Apple iPad. The goal is to make learning more motivating and to enable students to communicate and collaborate around the clock. Rather than simply using digital versions of textbooks, the design pursues a continuous digital workflow from teacher materials to student work and evaluation. The design is based on broad didactic, pedagogical, and technical analyses and on action-based practical trials. A focus group with students who used iPads informed the initial design, and a subsequent design round produced a complete list of requirements. Findings indicate that the standard classroom setup is inadequate. The bookless high school is therefore designed to support problem-based learning and discovery learning, combined within the CSCL context into “Reality Based Learning.” Three key design implications emerged: it is necessary to eliminate not only paper books but paper use in general; interactive whiteboards should be avoided as classroom presentation tools; and the iPad’s hidden/closed file system makes it difficult to submit and share files across different learning management systems.
