Abstract

Denne afhandling undersøger, hvordan computational empowerment kan omsættes til praksis i mellemtrin og udskoling. Computational empowerment forstås her som at give elever viden og handlekraft til at forstå, bruge og være med til at forme digitale teknologier. Jeg analyserede observationer fra otte skoler samt fem interviews med lærere. Analysen byggede på en kodebog (et sæt analysekategorier) med afsæt i teorier om computational empowerment, computational thinking (problemløsning med idéer fra informatik), design thinking (brugerdrevet, iterativt design) og Bildung (dannelse). Resultaterne peger på tre grundlæggende læringsmomenter, som forbereder eleverne: - Først opbygger eleverne en grundlæggende teknologiforståelse. - Dernæst forbinder de denne forståelse med selvstændig tænkning og kreativitet i mødet med teknologi. - I det mest avancerede moment, jeg har observeret, anvender de teknologiforståelse, selvstændighed og kreativitet i en designproces for at løse et konkret problem ved at udvikle en ny teknologi eller prototype.

This thesis explores how computational empowerment can be put into practice in upper primary and lower secondary schooling. Here, computational empowerment means giving students the knowledge and agency to understand, use, and help shape digital technologies. I analyzed observations from eight schools and five teacher interviews. The analysis used a codebook (a set of categories) informed by theories of computational empowerment, computational thinking (problem-solving with ideas from computer science), design thinking (user-centered, iterative design), and Bildung (holistic education and personal formation). The findings point to three foundational learning moments that prepare students: - First, students build a basic foundation in technology comprehension. - Second, they connect this foundation to independent thinking and creativity with technology. - Third, at the most advanced moment I observed, they apply technology comprehension, independence, and creativity in a design process to solve a real-world problem by creating a new technology or prototype.
