Abstract
The purpose of this project is to compare the two microsimulation programs VISSIM and SUMO in relation to how realistically they can model real traffic. In Denmark, there is a tradition of using VISSIM when microscopic analyzes of the road network are to be carried out. However, VISSIM is both expensive and the results from it are not always reliable. SUMO is, like VISSIM, a program that can carry out microscopic analyzes of the road network. Compared to VISSIM, SUMO is both free to use and models the traffic in a different way. In this project, to begin with, a cross count has been carried out for the intersection Kong Christians Alle/Hasserisgade in Aalborg. In this cross-counting, data has also been collected regarding the maximum queue lengths that occur every 5 minutes during the counting period. These queue lengths are used as a basis for comparison to assess how realistically the two microsimulation programs can model reality.
