Specialet undersøger Maj My Humaidans Ærø manifestet gennem Hannah Arendts Menneskets vilkår for at belyse, hvordan bogens normkritik, konformitetstemaer og oplevelse af fællesskabsmangel træder frem i både teksten og dens modtagelse. Udgangspunktet er problemformuleringen: Hvordan kan Arendts begreber anvendes til at undersøge og diskutere disse problematikker? Metodisk kombinerer specialet en teoretisk læsning med genreanalyse. Det anvender Arendts vita activa (arbejde, fremstilling, handling), sfærerne (privat, social og offentlig) samt hendes analyse af moderniteten (socialsfærens opkomst, fremmedgørelse og animal laborans’ sejr). For at forbinde Arendts begrebsapparat til en nutidig dansk kontekst inddrages samfundsdiagnostiske værker om præstationssamfundet og konkurrencestaten (bl.a. Anders Petersen og Svend Brinkmann). Sekundært analyseres den offentlige respons på bogen via Kaare Dybvads Arbejdets land, Humaidans opfølger Blødt og udvalgte tv-debatter, med fokus på frihed, tale, politisk handling og konformitet. Analysen belyser temaer som arbejdets tyranni i præstationssamfundet, produktivitetskrav, fællesskabsmangel og figuren animal laborans, og diskuterer, hvordan grænserne mellem privat, social og offentlig sfære udfordres, når en personlig fortælling bliver genstand for politisk og medial vurdering. Specialet tilbyder dermed en begrebsstyret fortolkning af Ærø manifestet og den debat, bogen udløste, i lyset af Arendts tænkning.
This thesis examines Maj My Humaidan’s Ærø manifestet through Hannah Arendt’s The Human Condition to illuminate how the book’s critique of norms, themes of conformity, and experiences of lacking community appear in both the text and its reception. The guiding research question asks how Arendt’s concepts can be used to investigate and discuss these issues. Methodologically, the thesis combines a theoretical reading with genre analysis. It applies Arendt’s vita activa (labor, work, action), the spheres (private, social, public), and her account of modernity (the rise of the social, alienation from the world, and the triumph of animal laborans). To bridge Arendt’s framework to a contemporary Danish context, it draws on diagnostic works about the performance society and the competitive state (including Anders Petersen and Svend Brinkmann). As a secondary strand, it analyzes the public response via Kaare Dybvad’s Arbejdets land, Humaidan’s follow-up Blødt, and selected TV debates, focusing on freedom, speech, political action, and conformity. The analysis highlights themes such as the tyranny of work in the performance society, productivity imperatives, lack of community, and the figure of animal laborans, and discusses how boundaries between private, social, and public spheres are challenged when a personal narrative becomes a target of political and media scrutiny. The thesis thus offers a conceptually driven interpretation of Ærø manifestet and the debate it sparked, viewed through Arendt’s thought.
