Abstract
Dette projekt har til formål at designe nye overnatningssteder for turister, der kommer for at opleve Færøernes vilde og uberørte natur. Designet bygger på en kulturel tilgang, der henter inspiration i færøsk natur og i studier af eksisterende kulturarv og arkitektur, som fungerer som rettesnore gennem processen. Projektet tager samtidig højde for det lokale vejr og de krav, det stiller til valg af materialer og konstruktion. En central inspirationskilde er de historiske færøske bådhuse, Neyst, som ligger ved kysten ved næsten hver landsby. De har stor kulturel betydning og har – måske uden at det var tilsigtet – været med til at præge Færøernes arkitektoniske identitet. This project aims to design new accommodation for visitors who come to experience the Faroe Islands’ wild and unspoiled nature. The design is guided by a cultural perspective, drawing on the character of Faroese nature and on studies of existing cultural architecture to inform decisions throughout the process. It also considers the local weather and the resulting requirements for suitable materials and construction. A major source of inspiration is the historical Faroese boat houses known as Neyst, found along the shores of nearly every village. They hold high cultural value and—perhaps unintentionally—have helped shape the architectural identity of the Faroe Islands. By closely studying these boat houses, the project develops tools and methods with an emphasis on tectonics (how buildings are assembled and express their structure) and sustainability. The goal is to create accommodation that fits naturally with the atmosphere of the islands and enriches the experience of their architectural history, wild nature, and Faroese culture.
