Abstract
Resume: Denne afhandling undersøger de underliggende sociale og individuelle drivkræfter, der kan få unge mænd til at engagere sig i bandemiljøer, såvel som professionelle relationers rolle som en beskyttende faktor. Gennem et kvalitativt design gennemførte vi interviews med to unge mænd, der tidligere var involveret i bander, og en socialrådgiver med praktisk erfaring. Vores teoretiske ramme kombinerer Axel Honneths teori om anerkendelse, Howard Beckers stemplingsteori og Aaron Antonovskys følelse af sammenhæng (OAS) for at analysere empirien. Resultaterne viser, at mangel på følelsesmæssig støtte, social udstødelse og institutionel mistillid bidrager til de unges søgen efter en identitet og tilhørsforhold i bandesammenhænge. Bandetilhørsforhold kan ofte kompensere for manglende anerkendelse og stabilitet i traditionelle rammer som familie, skole og velfærdssystemer. Vil analysen endvidere afsløre, at konsekvente og respektfulde professionelle relationer kan tjene som centrale vendepunkter for at bryde dette mønster. Dette projekt bidrager til en dybere forståelse af det komplekse samspil mellem individuel erfaring og strukturelle forhold og understreger vigtigheden af langsigtede, tillidsbaserede indsatser i socialt arbejde med udsatte unge.
Abstract This thesis investigates the underlying social and individual drivers that may lead young men to engage in gang environments, as well as the role of professional relationships as a protective factor. Through a qualitative design, we conducted interviews with two young men formerly involved in gangs and one social worker with practical experience. Our theoretical framework combines Axel Honneth’s theory of recognition, Howard Becker’s labelling theory, and Aaron Antonovsky’s sense of coherence (SOC) to analyse the data. The findings show that a lack of emotional support, social exclusion, and institutional mistrust contribute to the youth’s search for an identity and belonging in gang contexts. Gang affiliation can often compensate for absent recognition and stability in traditional settings such as family, school, and welfare systems. Furthermore, will the analysis reveal that consistent and respectful professional relationships can serve as key turning points in breaking this pattern. This project contributes to a deeper understanding of the complex interplay between individual experience and structural conditions and emphasizes the importance of long-term, trust based interventions in social work with at-risk youth.
